Coach Certification Process / Reimbursement Process
*SAMHA will reimburse coaches for all required courses*
Head Coach
If you are a head coach requiring any courses to meet the minimum standards as listed here. Please check this page to see what is needed for your division. The steps are listed below in order to take the course.
Ensure that the following is included in the email/submission:
- Coach reimbursement form
- Receipts from all courses attended
- Courses have been completed (online and in class portions)
If the submissions are being emailed to the office, please include the forms as an attachment via PDF or a Word Document. Pics or Jpegs are difficult to process!
If the individual course cost is over $200.00 approval from the HOC VP is also required.
Assistant Coaches
The process is the same for all assistant coaches wanting to take courses appropriate for the division you are assisting in. The only other step required is to have approval from the Development Director as well. Please email your Division Director and then cc the Development director on the email. Approval will occur from both directors. Submit this chain of emails with your reimbursement form.
All Coaches are required to have the courses completed by November 15th of the year in order to remain on the HCR and be eligible to coach. If the courses are not completed, the coach will be removed from the HCR and replaced. We have no leniency on this as Hockey Alberta requires this and will suspend teams if we do not adhere to this process.
ALL COACHES AND ON ICE HELPERS
All Coaches require the RIS for activity leader in order to be on the HCR for the team or to be an on ice helper.
A minimum of one member of the coaching staff is required to have the HCSP Level one program completed. SAMHA will pay for two members of the coaching staff to ensure that one certified coach is present at all times.
Submissions will need to be submitted to the office by the 15th of the month and payment will be sent out via mail to the coaches by the 30th of the month. The deadline for the submissions is the 15th of December of the year the course was taken.
If there are any questions regarding this process or if clarification is required, please contact the development director via email at developmentdirector@samha.ca or 780-242-2572
We will offer courses in the winter session for assistants to also obtain certification. If there is specific courses or clinics that you are interested in taking, they will be approved via the Development director and the HOC VP on a case by case basis.
There will be multiple courses offered in St. Albert on a yearly basis to assist the coaches stay on top of the latest methods being taught. Stay tuned to the coach web site and the Division directors will also be informing the coaches of these sessions. They will be offered at no cost to the coaches.
